Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion, or microderm, is a cosmetic procedure in which the dead, outer layer of the skin is removed by abrasion. It is offered as a treatment for acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, open pores and other superficial facial imperfections.

How does Microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion machines are hand-held and made from a compressor and a pump, combining abrasion of the skin and suction to remove the very top layer of skin. The process takes between half an hour to an hour. The microdermabrasion machine uses a controlled flow of fine crystals to exfoliate the skin, with instant results. No preparation of the skin is required prior to treatment and it is suitable for all skin types.

After treatment, the skin appears brighter and fresher. The process also promotes the production of new skin cells and cleans the pores. This procedure can be used on parts of the body other than the face including the hands, arms, chest, knees and elbows.
